Wesclin Math Team wins Regional Championship

The Wesclin Math Team competed in regionals on February 24th at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville where they were named regional champions. Wesclin competed in the Division 1A Regional against Carrollton, Father McGivney Catholic, Waterloo Gibault Catholic, Lebanon, Marissa, and Red Bud. Wesclin placed first overall with Gibault in second and Father Mcgivney third. In the overall subjects, the team placed 3rd in Algebra I, 3rd in Geometry, 1st in Algebra II, and 1st in PreCalculus. As for individual teams, Wesclin placed 3rd in Freshman/Sophomore Eight Person Team, 1st in Calculator Team, 3rd in Freshman/Sophomore Two Person Team, and 2nd in Junior/Senior Two Person Team. Also, the Oral Presentation team of Ethan Boulanger and Collin Henderson earned 3rd place. Many individual awards were won as well, such as Abby Oster-4th in Algebra I, McKenna Daiber- tied for 5th in Geometry, Lydia Gajewski- tied for 5th in Geometry, Ryan Gladden-tied for 5th in Geometry, Cameron Johnson- 2nd in Algebra II, Owen Henderson-5th in Algebra II, Ethan Boulanger-2nd in PreCalculus, and Blake Kohlbrecher-4th in PreCalculus. A huge contribution to the regional win and senior Blake Kohlbrecher said, “Overall I am proud of everyone because we all did our best. Freshman through seniors, we did good and that is why we won.” The Wesclin Math Team will continue onto state on May 5th at the University of Illinois at Champaign.
